Take Your Vitamins

Austin Beltrand

Have you depleted my skin enough

to inscribe in pencil your edicts?

Fjords would give away tectonically,

quivering as geese-feathered fingers

migrated and the earth began to reject

the moisture it had aridly stored.

I now welcome the graphite eagerly

and hoard iron arsenals for the fists

and concentrate my mind on when nerves

recapture their steel, tempered in cold.

You left just leachate leaking from the

dusty corner of a cavernous eye.
It caught you ignore blatantly the non-

Newtonian physics of a clay heart, but

such is no invitation for the tenderizer.

I thank God that caverns can

collapse.
