I’ve Never Been

Dominique Resendez

Moscow is Paris is Beijing is Mars

is the haze                      is someone else’s sweat

on my brow.

I lived in dour streets, rain fondling

the pavement                cobblestones arguing with

my stilettos.

I died in Parisian streets and overflowing parlor

casinos, tipsily,

with sugar crystalizing my insides and words floating

from my mouth like            bubbles in champagne.

But no, I’ve never been.
